Interviu - Grimus, despre anul 2012 si Eurosonic

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Google+

Asteptam cu nerabdare concertul celor de la Ewert and The Two Dragons, de a caror piesa, Good Man Down am devenit dependenti. In masura in care ne va permite timpul, vom incerca sa ne delectam cu cat mai multe concerte in Olanda.

Dar stati linistiti, nu-l vom tortura pe vocalul nostru punandu-l sa invete piesa In a Glimpse in olandeza...

Anul acesta ati cantat la patru festivaluri mari: B'Estfest, Sziget, Rock For People si Exit.

Fiecare dintre aceste participari a avut farmecul ei.

A mai fost si cererea in casatorie in timpul piesei In Your Eyes, o explozie de emotii pozitive, o intarire a sentimentului de ''aici si acum'' irepetabil.

Anul acesta ati intrat si in The European Talent Exchange Program (ETEP), cum credeti ca o sa influenteze acest lucru viitorul trupei?

The English version of the interview for the Eurosonic public.

The year 2012 was an excellent one for Grimus: they have given concerts at some of the biggest European festivals, they have opened some of the biggest concerts in Romania, they had a big number of club concerts in Bucharest and Cluj and the year ended with an invitation to a very important festival in the Netherlands - Eurosonic. For Grimus, 2013 will begin very soon with the Eurosonic participation and the opportunity to win many fans, not only Dutch, but throughout all Europe. Clearly, Grimus is on the right track of becoming one of the most appreciated Romanian new bands. Before 2012 ended, we spent a little time chatting with Vali Rauca from Grimus, mostly about Eurosonic and 2012.

You start 2013 with a concert at a festival outside our country, in the Netherlands, at Eurosonic. What do you know about this festival, what are your expectations?

Indeed, we have not yet participated in any festival that starts in January, but we are very happy about it. Hopefully it will be a good sign for everything that will happen to Grimus in 2013. From what we know, Eurosonic is more than just a festival, it has parallel meetings between people from the  European music industry, representatives of festivals, booking agents, band managers, music professionals etc.

Plans for 2013 festivals are being made, contracts are being signed, there are lots of parties, people from the European music industry are getting to know each other better. Basically, it’s like whant happens in Cluj during the TIFF festival, I assume that the same thing happens with the city Groeningen on the days that Eurosonic Noorderslaag occurs.

Have you seen the lineup for Eurosonic 2013, are there bands whose concerts you don’t wanna miss?

We look forward to the concert of Ewert and The Two Dragons, we became addicted of their song, Good Man Down. We also do not want to miss the concert of  the Latvian band Instrumenti. There are many good bands participating this year, we didn’t even had the time to listen to them all. To the extent that time permits us, we will try to enjoy as many concerts as we can in the Netherlands.

Have you had any contact with the Dutch public before? Have you prepared something special for this occasion?

We had no contact with the Dutch public so far, although after the opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers we were very praised by a Dutch music blogger that saw us for the first time on the National Stadium from Bucharest and wanted to thank us :)

We have already experience with the Romanian, English, Czech, Polish, Serbian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Austrian public and it will be a pleasure to add the Dutch public on this list. But rest assured, we will not torture our vocal putting him to learn parts of In a Glimpse in Dutch ... We’ll  sing our best known songs in their own way, but also one or two brand-new songs from the third album which will be released in the spring of 2013. It will be a typically Grimus show, with lots of  energy and Bogdan (vocals) transforming the stage and the zone in front of the stage in his playground.

This year you’ve played at four big festivals: B'ESTFEST, Sziget, Rock For People and Exit. At which of these festivals did you have the largest public and which one did you liked the most?

There were, indeed, four great festivals, with openings for three major bands: Roxette, Placebo and RHCP. Each of these had its charm. We were impressed by Exit’s superb location, the  promptness of the techniques and also by the fact that we had breakfast a few feet away of Axl Rose.

At Sziget we liked the Romanian group who came to our concert with a very big Romanian flag, the immensity of the festival and the impressive number of people involved in its organization.

At B'ESTFEST we had the opportunity to sing on an absolutely huge stage, bigger than any stage we played this summer. And at Rock for People in Czech Republic we had probably the most amazing public from our existence, from the first minute of our concert until its end, and people were shouting our name even a few hours after we finished the concert and went for a walk in the festival area.

Interviu - Grimus, despre anul 2012 si Eurosonic Interviu - Grimus, despre anul 2012 si Eurosonic

Besides these festivals you opened lots of big concerts in Romania: Placebo, Roxette and Red Hot Chili Peppers. I guess at RHCP you had the largest audience in front of whom you have ever played, how was that experience (we were there and it seemed like you had no emotions, not even for a moment, everything came out perfectly)?

You might be surprised, but our biggest emotions were not at RHCP, there we were already very prepared after a summer with lots of great concerts. The moment I felt like my heart was about to stop beating was during the opening concert for Placebo. At one moment Bogdan came to me during a song and told me to watch in the right of the scene, where Brian Molko was looking at us and shaking his head to the rhythm of our song.

Placebo is one of the 3 bands to whom we owe our existence, and for me it meant a lot. Of course, I felt a different emotion in front of over 45,000 people on the stage from the National Stadium, where the public has supported us from the very first moment, and that mattered enormously. There was also the marriage proposal during the song In Your Eyes, which was a burst of positive emotions, a greater sense of ''here and now'' that is unrepeatable.

At Roxette it was the pride of playing at home in front of 30,000 people from Cluj, and the great feeling that we belong to the city where we have started.

How does a festival concert differ from an opening concert for a big band?

For us it doesn’t. Sometimes during concerts we tend to forget where we are, as we enter a state which does not depend on anything other than what happens between us on stage.

Have you talked / interacted in the backstage with members of the bands whose concerts you've opened? Or with artists from the lineup of the festivals where you’ve played?

Yes. In a hurry with Flea and almost not at all with Roxette. The most polite, open and natural was Brian Molko. He praised us, he knew we had more No. 1 songs on Radio Guerrilla, because he personally chose us for the opening of Placebo concert in Bucharest. It was one of those moments at the end of which you no longer want to take your picture with your favourite artist because you already feel fulfilled, and your greatest desire from when you were a kid came true.

This year you entered in the European Talent Exchange Program (ETEP), how do you think this will influence the future of the band?

It will certainly influence the evolution of the band, we already feel the exposure we had due to this program. The most striking example of this is that the Placebo official website announced that we will participate at Eurosonic due to CETEP score obtained from the participation at major festivals this summer.

In 2013 you will release a new album. Can you reveal us some details about it? You will sing new songs at Eurosonic?

Perhaps we’ll sing one or two songs from the upcoming album at the concert in the Netherlands. We just finished recording the voices and everything sounds great. We like to think that this will be the album of maturity for Grimus. We hope you’ll also enjoy it in the spring, when it will be released.
